Middlesbrough goalkeeper Connor Ripley has signed on loan for Burton Albion.

Burton Albion's official website confirmed that Connor Ripley has joined the club on a season long loan deal.

The Brewers were in the market for a new goalkeeper after releasing last season's first choice stopper Jon McLaughlin.

With just shy of 150 appearances for Burton Albion under his belt, McLaughlin finally parted ways with Burton and left them short of options between the sticks.

Veteran goalkeeper Stephen Bywater started the opening game of the season as Burton fell to a 1-0 loss against Cardiff City due to a late Kenneth Zohore goal.

Burton Albion have now moved to bring in Connor Ripley on loan after he fell down the pecking order at the Riverside.

Ripley might have been hoping for some first team action at Boro this season but Garry Monk snapped up Darren Randolph from West Ham and re-signed Dimi Konstantopoulos.

Last season, Connor Ripley was the star man at Oldham Athletic, winning two player of the season awards and being named in the EFL Team of the Season.

The 24-year-old kept seventeen clean sheets for Oldham, who were battling against relegation every week.

Prior to the Oldham loan, the former England youth international had also had temporary stints at Oxford United, Bradford City, Ostersund and Motherwell.

Ripley signed a new three year deal at Middlesbrough before being sent out on loan.

The Verdict

This seems to fit all parties.

Connor Ripley was perhaps hopeful that he might be their first choice this season after his fine year at Oldham but he has been handed the chance to impress in the Championship before competing for the starting spot next season.

In the short term, Burton Albion have one of the finest young goalkeepers around and he has plenty of experience for a 24-year-old.
