Middlesbrough have announced on the club's official website that they have completed a deal to sign promising young starlet Lewis Wing.

Lewis Wing joins Middlesbrough from non-league club Shildon.

Shildon AFC, who are based in Durham, play in the Northern League Division One - the tenth tier of English football.

Middlesbrough have dug deep into non-league to snap up Lewis Wing, who is rated as one of the most promising talents in the local area.

The 22-year-old will initially team up with the Middlesbrough academy team.

Wing joins Luxembourg international Enes Mahmutovic and Blyth Spartans youngster Luke Armstrong as the third player signed for Middlesbrough's under-23 side this summer.

This highlights a change in approach in Middlesbrough's transfer approach as their academy prepares to play in the PL2 Division 2 competition.

Lewis Wing plays as an attacking midfielder and he is renowned for his goal scoring exploits from those positions.

After scoring an impressive 37 goals in the Northern League Division One last season, Lewis Wing has attracted interest from Middlesbrough and joined the Championship outfit after being scouted by Ron Bone, who has now left the club.

The young forward initially pens a one year deal with the club and his aims will be to impress in the under-23 squad, push for a place in the senior side and to earn a contract extension with Boro.
