Oxford United have today published the signing of ex-loan starlet Chris Maguire – the club’s official website confirms.
The first signing to be revealed was that of Chris Maguire, Maguire joins the club after his release by Rotherham United.
The 27-year-old arrives at the Kassam Stadium on a one-year-deal; this is the second spell that Maguire has had at the club, after a successful spell with the U’s during the last campaign in which he scored 5 goals and set up 6 in the 21 league games he played for the club.
Maguire could have more pressure to deliver this campaign however; as starlet Kemar Roofe has left the club – this puts massive pressure on all other attackers to step up, as Roofe (who won the League Two Player Of The Year award) was such a massive part of the clubs success last season.
The second signing made this morning was that of Joe Rothwell; who signs for Oxford on a two-year-deal from Premier League giants Manchester United.
Rothwell joined the United academy in 2001, and was a youth player at the club until 2013 – when he signed his first professional contract. Since that point, he made 43 appearances in U21 and U19 competitions for the club, however has never made a senior appearance for the Red Devils.
The 21-year-old has however has had Football League experience during loan spells with Barnsley and Blackpool, and has some experience in Sky Bet League One; which could prove helpful as it is the league he’ll find himself competing in for the upcoming campaign.
So.. Oxford fans, what do you think of these signings? Is Appleton doing good business? How will you do this season? Leave thoughts and opinions in the comments below!
