Championship side Preston North End have loaned in Manchester United goalkeeper Sam Johnstone, the club have confirmed.
It comes after Sunderland loanee, Jordan Pickford, was recalled by his parent club this week after having a magnificent loan spell at Deepdale, that saw him attract the attention of many a top side.
It now sees Sam Johnstone return to the club after a loan spell last season that saw the club promoted from League One. He was set to rejoin the club ahead of this year, but he wasn’t allowed to leave after David De Gea’s Real Madrid transfer saga.
He had interest from plenty of Championship sides ahead of the January window, including Reading, QPR, Bristol City, Wolves and Huddersfield, all beaten by Preston.
Johnstone has initially signed for 28 days, which will most likely be extended, and will be available for the first game of the new year against Rotherham on Saturday.
