Lincoln City have added to their squad this afternoon by bringing in transfer-listed Barnet legend John Akinde on a three year deal.

28-year old Akinde was put on the list after the Bees suffered relegation to the National League, with Martin Allen describing him at the time as one of the club's all-time greats. The Imps have now secured his services for an undisclosed fee.

Ambitious Lincoln have already added 22-goal Bruno Andrade to their ranks, as well as Notts County captain Michael O'Connor in an impressive summer of recruitment. Boreham Wood keeper Grant Smith and former Norwich man Harry Toffolo make up the other incoming players.

Imps' manager Danny Cowley was delighted with the capture. Along with brother Nicky they've delivered trophies in successive seasons, taking the Imps from the National League to the League Two play-offs and their first ever Wembley appearance.

"This is a big signing for Lincoln City but also a really important decision for John, so we are delighted that he feels his ambitions can be realised at Sincil Bank," he told the Lincolnshire Echo. "It is never easy to sign a player with this type of goal scoring record and John is unique in also possessing all of the qualities that we were looking for in a centre forward."

Akinde scored 87 goals in four seasons with Barnet, but bagged only four last season as injuries hit him hard. He started out at Gravesend and Northfleet, with Lincoln City becoming the 14th club of his career.

The Verdict

This is a massive signing for the Imps, they've hunted a partner for Matt Green for over a year now and they've finally got their man. It isn't as though they need a big name to sell season tickets either, they recently sold out for the first time in the club's history.

If he stays fit and on form, there's no better forward in League Two than John Akinde, which will only serve to further boost the hopes of those Imps fans currently being spoiled with success.
