Leeds United full-back Gaetano Berardi has signed a new two-year contract extension that will see him contracted to the West-Yorkshire club until 2018, the club have confirmed.

Gaetano Berardi has signed a two-year deal at Leeds

Berardi's Leeds United contract was due to expire in the summer, but Leeds boss Uwe Rosler was keen to tie the defender down to the club for a longer period of time as Berardi expressed his desire to stay at the club.

His versatility is an attribute that is utilised by Leeds as he is able to play competently on either side of the defence.

Additionally, his unwavering ability to stand firm at the back is something that Rosler was intent on maintaining, especially due to the fact that Leeds are striving to improve their form in the Sky Bet Championship.

And now a contract agreement has been reached, the player will be keen to continue putting in the hard work for Leeds United.

Speaking to the club's official website, Berardi said: "I'm very happy here. The city and everything is very good.

"We are a team this season after many changes last season. We are a very good group together - that is important.

"I have been playing right-back, which is my [preferred] position. We are playing well with the full-backs in every game.

"I hope to stay in this position through hard work every day and hard work every match."

The Swiss defender has already featured eight times this season under Uwe Rosler and is seemingly loving life at Elland Road.

Leeds United fans will be hoping that his happiness at the club will transfer into consistently good performances as they look towards the top-half of the Championship table.

His next test in a Leeds shirt will be against Aitor Karanka's Middlesbrough next Sunday.

The defender will no doubt be hoping that he can help his side keep a clean sheet and hopefully come away from the Riverside with three valuable points.
