Blackburn have announced the signing of Leeds United defender Barry Douglas on a season-long loan deal.

Rovers have beaten off competition from Championship rivals Watford for the Scottish left-back, who'll spend the campaign at Ewood Park following a difficult spell with the Whites since their promotion to the Premier League.

Douglas is yet to feature in the topflight under Marcelo Bielsa - with his only appearance coming in last months EFL Cup penalty shoot-out defeat to Hull City at Elland Road.

The 31-year-old, capped just once by Scotland, has been one of the stand-out Championship full-backs in recent seasons, winning the title twice in the previous three years.

Douglas was an integral part of the Wolves side back in 2018, scoring five times and adding 14 assists, before repeating the feat with Leeds last term to end their 16-year wait for topflight football, although his opportunities were limited due to Stuart Dallas' impressive form, appearing only 15 times in the league.

More to follow.

Everything about this deal strikes me as excellent business for Blackburn.

Douglas has endured a difficult 15 months at Leeds, so he'll move to Ewood Park with a massive point to prove.

On his day, the Scotsman remains one of the most dangerous full-backs around, his assist record at Wolves two seasons back epitomises that, and if Blackburn get him fit and firing, the likes of Adam Armstrong and Bradley Dack will relish his service.
