Leeds United have confirmed on their official website the signing of Cameron Borthwick-Jackson on a season-long loan from Manchester United.
The Whites have been on the lookout for a left-back for most of the summer, after Charlie Taylorâs decision to quit Elland Road for Burnley at the end of last season.
Borthwick-Jacksonâs arrival will give Thomas Christiansen a natural option at left-back, with Leedsâ head-coach forced to play Gaetano Berardi out of position on the opening day of the season.
The 20-year-old is highly rated at Old Trafford, and has made 14 appearances for Manchester United, with ten of those coming in the Premier League.
He also spent time on-loan with Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Sky Bet Championship last season, but managed just seven appearances in a disappointing year at Molineux.
Borthwick-Jackson has also represented England at various youth levels, including the Under 17s, Under 19s and Under 20s.
Leeds have handed Borthwick-Jackson the number three shirt for the 2017/18 campaign, and the timing of his arrival will ease the pressure on Christiansen, who lost Berardi to a shoulder injury in yesterdayâs victory over Bolton Wanderers.
The Swiss defender was replaced by Vurnon Anita, another player who is not a natural left-back.
The Verdict
This is an exciting signing for Leeds, with Borthwick-Jackson arriving at Elland Road with an excellent reputation.
The left-back endured a difficult spell at Wolves last season, but Leeds will be hopeful that the player can rediscover the form he showed during his early days in the Manchester United first-team.
Christiansen will be pleased with Borthwick-Jacksonâs arrival, with the defender set to solve Leedsâ problem position for the next 12-months.
If Borthwick-Jackson can rediscover his best, he could become one of the Championshipâs standout defenders.
