Barnsley manager Lee Johnson is interested in bringing Stuart Bannigan to Oakwell
Bristol City have confirmed the appointment of Lee Johnson as their new manager

Reports surfaced yesterday that they had made an official approach for the Barnsley boss, which was later confirmed by the Yorkshire club.

Johnson has signed a three-and-a-half year deal at Ashton Gate, and is in the stands watching his new side take on relegation rivals Charlton Athletic at the Valley this afternoon.

He made over 190 appearances for the Robins during a six year spell, which included a promotion to the Championship and a run to the play-off final during that season in the second tier.

He impressed during his first job in management when he took over at Oldham Athletic in 2013, leading them to survival during his first season on charge.

He then moved to Oakwell with Barnsley and again impressed with his attitude and playing style. He suffered a difficult start to this season as the Tykes sat bottom for a long period of time. He has however turned around the fortunes of the club, leading them to six successive victories.

He will be relishing the opportunity to take over at a club which holds family ties and is close to his heart. If he can guide the Robins to safety, then it will seen as job well done for the 34-year-old.

Caretaker manager John Pemberton will continue with the club and take over as Johnson's assistant.
