AFC Wimbledon have completed the loan signing of Sheffield United goalkeeper George Long, the club's official website has confirmed.

George Long has fallen down the pecking order at Sheffield United and the newly promoted side have allowed their back-up goalkeeper to move away on loan to get some playing time.

Simon Moore displaced Long as the first choice stopper at Sheffield United last season and looks set to continue between the sticks for Chris Wilder's side as they prepare for their upcoming campaign in the Sky Bet Championship.

Meanwhile, George Long will spend the year at AFC Wimbledon after agreeing a season long loan deal with the Wombles.

Long arrives following two goalkeeping departures at Kingsmeadow.

James Shea left and has since joined Luton Town while Joe Bursik was snapped up by Stoke City.

With just Joe McDonnell on their books, AFC Wimbledon have swooped to bring in George Long as a temporary solution to this problem.

The 23-year-old was on a shortlist of 15 possible goalkeeper targets drawn up by Neal Ardley and he was top of the list.

The former England under-20 international brings plenty of experience to the South West London club despite his young age, having already played over 100 competitive games for the Blades.

The 6ft 4in stopper will be hoping for a profitable season where he can continue his development by playing regular football.
