Ipswich Town have confirmed via their official website that Danny Rowe has left Portman Road to link up with Lincoln City on-loan until the end of the 2017/18 campaign.

Rowe has linked up with Lincoln in Sky Bet League Two, with the midfielder looking to help Danny Cowley’s side in their quest for promotion from the fourth tier.

Lincoln currently sit fifth in the League Two table, but are tailing the automatic promotion places by just one-point at the start of 2018.

Rowe, 25, only arrived at Portman Road in January 2017, signing a three-and-a-half year deal with Ipswich.

However, Mick McCarthy has used the midfielder sparingly, particularly this season, with Rowe failing to start a Championship fixture this season and his only start coming in the Carabao Cup defeat to Crystal Palace earlier in the season.

Like Rowe’s new employers, Ipswich are also going in search of promotion under McCarthy, although their push for the play-offs has taken a hit in recent weeks, with the Tractor Boys now seven points outside the top-six.

McCarthy’s side managed to pick up just a single point over the festive period, and are without a victory in their last three fixtures.

The Verdict

McCarthy has used Rowe sparingly this season, with Ipswich using a tight pool of players in their quest for the top-six in the Championship.

A loan move makes sense for all parties involved, with Rowe in particular sure to be keen to impress at his new employers.

Lincoln are well placed for a push for automatic promotion in the New Year, and recruiting form the Championship will boost that chance.
