Ipswich Town have signed Martyn Waghorn from Glasgow Rangers, the club's official website has announced.

Ipswich have beaten a number of clubs, including Sunderland, to the signing of Martyn Waghorn.

With one year left on his current deal at Rangers, Waghorn has decided to move back to England, where he has been brought in by Mick McCarthy to bolster Ipswich Town's attacking options.

The 27-year-old plays anywhere across the forward line, adding competition for places up front and on the wings for the Tractor Boys.

Martyn Waghorn puts pen to paper on a two year deal with Ipswich Town and is eligible for their EFL Cup clash with Luton Town in midweek.

The former England under-21 international has plenty of experience in England.

Waghorn has played for Sunderland, Leicester City and Wigan Athletic whilst also spending periods on loan at Charlton Athletic, Hull City and Millwall.

Ipswich have paid Rangers an undisclosed fee for his services.

Ipswich Town's official website is reporting that it is a "substantial" figure.

After scoring 44 goals in 78 games in all competitions at Rangers, Ipswich fans will be hoping that Martyn Waghorn can replicate that sort of goal scoring form in England.

After their goal troubles last year, Ipswich have brought in Waghorn and Joe Garner, both from Rangers.

The Verdict

Ipswich have addressed their goal scoring problems by bringing in two forwards from Rangers: Garner and Waghorn.

Garner scored on his debut and Waghorn could form an exceptional partnership with his old team mate at Portman Road.

The versatile forward is capable of scoring goals from out wide or from a central striker role, which is exactly what Ipswich need after their lack of goal threat last season.
