Ipswich Town have added a second signing in the space of two days, after completing a transfer for Australian winger Tommy Oar, the Sudbury Mercury has confirmed.

The 23-year-old became a free agent after he was released by FC Utrecht, five years after joining the Eredivisie side.

The two-year deal, with an option to extend it for 12 months, was officially completed after the player underwent a medical.

Town had previously revealed that the player would join the club over the weekend.

Speaking upon his arrival at Portman Road, the new signing said he always wanted to move to England.

“It’s a perfect move for me,” Oar told the official website. “I’ve spoken to Mick McCarthy a few times and I can tell it is a club with ambition.

“Moving to England was always my preferred option and when a club likes Ipswich comes up, it’s going be a great opportunity for me and I’m delighted that is has worked out."

The move comes hot on the heels of another swoop that Town completed two days earlier, which came in the form of Polish right-back Piotr Malarczyk who joined from Korona Kielce for an undisclosed fee.

Oar is the ninth player to sign for the Suffolk club this season, with manager Mick McCarthy tending to attract players from across the continent.

The Aussie international joined Utrecht after spending two years with Brisbane Roar.

In Holland, he played 105 games scoring 14 goals and earned a reputation for his creativity and attacking capabilities.
