Ipswich Town boss Mick McCarthy has completed the signing of experienced Championship winger Mustapha Carayol as he looks to strengthen his squad ahead of a final push towards a play-off place.

The Tractor Boys confirmed the signing of the 29-year-old this evening just hours after Nottingham Forest broke the news that he had departed the City Ground by mutual consent.

The pacey winger boasts experience in the Championship with Middlesbrough, Brighton and Hove Albion, Leeds United and Huddersfield Town, representing a shrewd free transfer for boss McCarthy.

The Gambia international made 17 appearances for the Reds this term but didn't appear to be fancied by new boss Aitor Karanka and he has been moved on to make way for incoming signings at the City Ground.

Carayol pens terms on a contract until the end of the season at Portman Road and he will surely relish the opportunity to try and lead the Tractor Boys into the top six of the Championship.

The Verdict

Carayol isn't a bad Championship winger but it does remain to be seen just how badly his confidence has been knocked by not featuring a great deal at Nottingham Forest.

On his day he can be a fearsome opponent for any second tier full-back and Mick McCarthy will now have the challenge of getting the very best out of the 29-year-old.
