Huddersfield have announced on Twitter that they have signed Bournemouth defender Elliott Ward on loan in a deal that sees them strengthen their defensive set-up.

The defender made just 22 appearances for Bournemouth in a two-year spell at the club, and he played a small part in Bournemouth's first ever promotion to the Premier League.

The 6ft 1 defender is an astute signing for a Huddersfield Town side looking to improve over the coming months as the Championship season progresses. Ward adds to the likes of Mustapha Carayol and Emyr Huws as a summer signing at the Yorkshire club, albeit on an emergency loan.

Speaking to Huddersfield's official YouTube account, he said: "I'm really happy, it's something that just came out the blue really. It took a few days to get sorted out and now I'm here to join the group to train and see how it goes."

When asked about his key strengths and what he is able to bring to the team, he added: "I've got a bit more experience about this league and what it takes to get out of this league. I'm coming from a footballing team and I like to play football.

"I like to keep clean sheets, but I'm hopefully going to just enjoy playing again".

The 30-year-old has struggled for first team action for a while now and will be looking forward to getting started against Cardiff this Saturday.

The loan deal will only last for an initial 28 days but with 249 Championship and 16 Premier League appearances to his name, he will be hoping to make an impact for Chris Powell's side.
