Championship side Huddersfield Town have completed the signing of former Sunderland and Middlesbrough midfielder Dean Whitehead, the club have confirmed.
Whitehead was used in a number of positions for Boro last season in their bid for promotion, including at right-back towards the end of the term. He was released at the end of the campaign by Aitor Karanka.
This lead to a barrel of clubs chasing his signature, including the Terries as well as Burnley.
However, it's Chris Powell who's won this race, confirming the signing today on a two-year contract. He'd previously had spells at Oxford United, Stoke City, as well as Sunderland.
Chris Powell told Huddersfield's official website: “Bringing Dean Whitehead to the Club was among my top priorities during this transfer window, so I’m delighted to welcome him to Huddersfield Town today. His arrival is testament to our policy of staying patient to ensure we recruit the right players for this Club.
Huddersfield are looking to push on next season from lower midtable obscurity. Their only other signing so far this summer is Ishmael Miller, who extended his contract by a year after joining on a short term deal from Blackpool on January transfer deadline day.
