Sky Bet League Two side Hartlepool United have announced on their official website the signing of Wycombe Wanderers midfielder Jason Banton on loan until January.

Former Crystal Palace midfielder Jason Banton has joined Hartlepool on loan until January

The 22-year-old only joined Gareth Ainsworth's side in the summer, after signing from Plymouth Argyle on a free transfer, but hasn't played in the league for the Chairboys since scoring in their 2-1 defeat to Argyle on September 12.

Although the young midfielder has played most of his football in League One and League Two, Banton has been involved in Liverpool, Leicester City and Crystal Palace squads in the past, which clearly shows the potential he holds.

Hartlepool manager Ronnie Moore was understandably delighted with the signing, telling the official site: 'He’s a match winner, that’s for sure. We are looking for someone to light the blue touch paper and Jason is certainly one who can do that.'

Banton, who has made four appearances at Under-17 level for England, has received high praise, and if he is to make the impact his manager hopes and expects, the Hartlepool fans will hope it comes this afternoon when they visit Dagenham and Redbridge.

The Pools need to start picking up points in their next few matches if they are to compete this season.

Moores’ side have lost their last three games which leaves them in 17th, just five points above the relegation zone, but if Banton can make a positive impact, we might expect to see Hartlepool climb the League Two table.
