Ruiz joined the Cottagers for £10.6m from FC Twente in 2011 and went on to score 13 times in 106 games for Fulham.

The Costa Rican international has signed a three-year contract with the Portuguese club for a reported fee of €2m (£1.42m) which includes a £43m buyout clause.

Fulham took up the option of adding another year onto Ruiz’s contract this summer in order to receive a fee for the 29-year-old.

The foward finished last season with eight goals in 33 Championship appearances, which was interrupted by injury and a transfer saga towards the end of the January window, being the subject of a loan move to La Liga side Levante which later collapsed.

Ruiz will hope to rediscover the form that saw him help FC Twente win their first Dutch title under Steve McClaren in 2010.
