Fulham have completed the signing of Southampton left-back Matt Targett on a loan deal until the end of the season as per their official website.

The Cottagers thrashed Burton Albion 6-0 on Saturday to move up to seventh in the Championship, one point off the play-off places and the arrival of the defender is further good news for the club.

Targett has made 42 appearances for the Saints, where he has come through the academy, in all competitions and has Europa League experience to his name as well.

He has also played for England at Under 19 and Under 21 level and Targett, now 22, will hope that the move to Craven Cottage will see him get regular game-time between now and the end of the season.

Targett said: "I’m really happy to be here. I am looking forward to helping the side push on to the play-offs.  One of the main reasons I joined is that the club is in a great place at the moment and the results have been fantastic.

"I can’t wait to be a part of that. I am very excited to make my Fulham debut and the most important thing is that we pick up the three points when I do."

The Verdict

With Ryan Sessegnon playing further forward, to great effect, this season and Scott Malone's summer departure to Huddersfield, Fulham have needed a left-back for a while now.

Targett has Premier League experience, is a top young player and will fit right into Fulham's expansive style of play. This is a great signing.
