Done Deal: Former Wigan midfielder joins Coventry City on loan

Coventry City have announced the loan signing of versatile midfielder Chris McCann.

McCann left Wigan at the end of last term and will join new MLS team Atlanta United for their inaugural season beginning in January. It had already been agreed, however, that he would be loaned back to England until then to keep up his match fitness.

And Coventry City have beaten off the competitors to secure the services of the left-footed midfielder until the new year on a temporary basis.

The former Republic of Ireland youth international can play in central midfield, out wide or at the back so becomes a useful asset to add to Tony Mowbray’s armoury going into the new season.

The 28-year-old spent 9 years with Burnley, making 238 appearances before leaving for Wigan in 2013. He played 66 times for the Latics and adds an experienced head to Coventry’s midfield.

McCann becomes City’s fourth summer signing after the arrivals of Jodi Jones, Kwame Thomas and Marvin Sordell. The Coventry Telegraph have reported that more signings are imminent in the next couple of weeks.
