Brentford have signed young Everton striker Leandro Rodriguez on a one month loan deal, the club have confirmed.

The 23-year-old Uruguayan forward has rarely featured for the Merseyside club and has made just one appearance all season which was an FA Cup showing against Dagenham and Redbridge.

It has been a disappointing season for Brentford who after making the play-offs last season have struggled to hit the same heights.

In the summer they lost everything that made them tick with manager Mark Warburton being surprisingly let go, Odubajo being sold to Hull in a big money deal, and main goalscorer Andre Gray left for Burnley in an even bigger money deal.

Gray has progressed well at Burnley spearheading their promotion challenge and is the division's top goalscorer.

Brentford also lost wingers Pritchard, Jota and Dallas along with experienced players James Tarkowski and Jonathan Douglas.

The signings to replace them have been disappointing and midfielder Alan Judge has beared most of the burden on the goal front, and is their top goal and assist maker.

Brentford have hit a bad run as well and sit 17th, just seven points off the relegation zone and they are struggling for goals leading to manager Dean Smith recruiting Rodriguez to bolster there attack.

Rodriguez scored 19 goals in 71 games in his native Uruguay and Smith is a big fan of the young man.

" Leandro is held in high regard at Everton and is a big prospect" said Smith.

This is Smith's first signing since his appointment in November and he said: "It's nice to finally bring someone in, we needed a new face around the place and we are thankful Everton are happy to bring him here".

This continues Brentford's affiliation with Everton as they loaned Chris Long to Griffin Park last season who played well and scored a hat trick against Blackpool.
