The 22-year-old left-back started his career at Leeds United before moving to the Merseyside club in 2009. He made 10 appearances last season, and was awarded with a five-year contract.

Garbutt, who represented England across all age groups, also spent two loan spells at Cheltenham Town and Colchester United, racking up more than 50 appearances and scoring five goals.

Upon his arrival at the Craven Cottage, Garbutt said to the club's site: “When I got the call saying Fulham wanted me on a season-long loan, I spoke to the manager and the staff here and I liked what they had to say and their plans for me this season. They’ve shown their faith and trust in me. I’m really looking forward to working with the boys and obviously the main objective is to get promoted this season''.

The youngster might be used by manager Kit Symons in the last pre-season friendly against Premier League side Crystal Palace, as the Eintracht Frankfurt game comes too soon for him.

Everton manager Roberto Martinez has previously said that such a move was necessary for the player to continue his development, as he fell behind Leighton Baines and Bryan Oviedo in the pecking order.

The Spanish manager told the Everton website. ‘’Luke is ready to go on loan and gain playing time and experience which will further help his development and, ultimately, help him to fulfil his potential’’.

Fulham are looking to continue their business in the market ahead of the new season. They have already secured the services of Ben Pringle, Andy Lonergan, Thomas Cairney, Ashley Richards and Jamie O'Hara.

The Cottagers kick off the new campaign at Cardiff City on 8 August.
