Derby County have secured a deal at the eleventh hour to sign Birmingham City midfielder Maikel Kieftenbeld who joins the Rams for an undisclosed fee, according to the club's official website.

The Dutch midfielder has departed St. Andrews having been signed for the Blues back in 2015 by current Rams boss Gary Rowett who signs the player for the second time.

A ball winning central midfielder by trade, the 27-year-old will link-up with his former boss when he return from a small break in Holland and he has penned a two-year deal with the East Midlands-based outfit.

Derby were willing to let midfielders Craig Bryson and Jacob Buttefield late in the day on transfer deadline day so the arrival of Kieftenbeld doesn't really come as a massive surprise.

The ex-Go Ahead Eagles performer made 92 appearances for Birmingham City in total and netted on five occasions for the club.

The Verdict

Kieftenbeld looks like a good, if slightly unspectacular signing from Derby County, who will be looking to reach the Championship top six this season.

Fans favourite Craig Bryson has been let go by the Rams and on that basis Kieftenbeld might have to hit the ground running if he is to appease some pretty disgruntled Derby supporters.
