Derby County have confirmed the arrival of experienced midfielder Tom Huddlestone from Championship rivals Hull City.

The 30-year-old joins Gary Rowett's Rams on a two-year deal, in a return to the club where he started his career, before leaving to join Tottenham Hotspur, some twelve years ago.

The deep-lying midfielder, who came through the academy at Derby, also has the option of an extra year's extension, should the club wish to take it up at the relevant time.

The former Tottenham man should add a wealth of experience to Rowett's squad, as the former Birmingham City manager aims to guide the Rams to a promotion push, in his first full season in the hot seat.

That includes international experience, with the languid playmaker having been capped four times by the Three Lions, the most recent of which came under Gareth Southgate's predecessor Roy Hodgson in a 4-2 friendly defeat to Sweden in 2012.

The report states that the fee paid for Huddlestone is undisclosed but the Hull Daily Mail recently reported that the Rams had launched a £2m bid for the midfield man, in order to trigger his release clause and leave the decision over a return to his first club with the player.

If Huddlestone becomes a regular under Rowett, he should move past 500 club appearances in the coming season, and will hope to add to the 24 goals he has scored in his career.
