They have handed the 34-year-old a one-year deal after the player impressed whilst training with the club, which provides manager Tony Mowbray with more options in the Sky Blues attack.
Fortune had a previous spell under the management of Mowbray at both West Bromwich Albion and Celtic, and the physical centre forward has plenty of experience in the British leagues having had spells at West Brom, Celtic, Doncaster Rovers and Wigan Athletic in the last six seasons.
Mowbray believes Fortune can bring ”a physical presence up front” and ”plenty of experience” to his squad, who have started impressively so far having taken ten points from their opening five league matches.
The attributes of Fortune is likely to give a different style and balance to the Sky Blues team. Pacy Striker Adam Armstrong, on loan from Newcastle United, has hit the ground running at the club with five league goals already to his name, while Fortune will give Coventry different options going forward.
Coventry, currently fifth in League One, travel to Burton Albion tomorrow.
