Coventry City have confirmed that Jordan Turnbull has left the club on loan.

Jordan Turnbull joins Scottish Premiership side Partick Thistle on a season long loan deal, Coventry City's official website reports.

Having signed for the Sky Blues last season for an undisclosed fee, Turnbull had a relegation clause in his contract allowing him to move away for free if Coventry went down to League Two.

However, the former Southampton man failed to secure a permanent move away from the Ricoh Arena, despite reported interest from a number of League One clubs.

The 23-year-old started the season as a regular but lost his place in the starting XI after Nathan Clarke arrived in January.

The former England youth international played 46 games in all competitions, including 36 League One outings (all of which were starts).

Jordan Turnbull is likely to be the replacement for Liam Lindsay at Partick Thistle.

Lindsay was named in the Scottish Premiership team of the year for last season but has moved to Barnsley this summer.

The Jags have swooped to provide a short-term solution to this by bringing in Jordan Turnbull.

He follows fellow centre half Cian Harries out of the exit door at Coventry City and Mark Robins will probably scour the market for a replacement.

The Verdict

After arriving with high expectations, Jordan Turnbull failed to live up to the hype.

With two seasons of League One experience (from loan spells at Swindon) under his belt already, Coventry fans were expecting a ready-made young defender to command the defence but his performances were littered with errors and a loss of confidence.

Turnbull would probably have been a good option to have in League Two but he didn't do enough last year to earn a free move away from Coventry, who took a gamble on him last season by dishing out an undisclosed fee.

A loan move could work for all parties; Turnbull will probably wait to see if the Sky Blues win promotion before deciding on his future next summer.
