Former AFC Wimbledon striker Lyle Taylor has agreed a move to Charlton Athletic.

The Montserrat international scored 44 times for Wimbledon in a two and a half year stay, but opted not to sign a new deal this summer, in search of a big move.

The 28-year old was heavily linked with Sunderland, but Charlton have this afternoon confirmed that they've managed to capture him on a two-year deal.

The move is something of a coup for Charlton, with many other sides interested in the former Falkirk man. He's proven at League One level and brings explosive pace and excellent finishing prowess to Charlton's forward line.

Lee Bowyer was delighted, telling the official Charlton website: "He obviously had interest from other clubs. There was a big club in our division that made him a much better offer and I think it just shows the lad’s attitude to come to us. His decision to come was based on football, simple as that, and I think that shows where we are as a club and the stature we’ve got.”

The Verdict

Make no mistake, this is a huge signing for the Addicks. Taylor is a highly sought after striker with lots to offer a club at this level.

In turning down more money he's shown a degree of passion for his new employer, although a move to Charlton will of course mean he can remain in London, rather than have to move as far north as you can imagine.
