Celtic defender Saidy Janko has completed a season-long loan to Sky Bet Championship outfit Barnsley, the club have confirmed.
The high-flying Tykes, who are managed by Paul Heckingbottom, have started the season impressively, and go into the international break in third position in the Championship on nine points, despite being rank outsiders in the bookies’ predictions before the season started.
Meanwhile, Switzerland Under-21 international Janko joined Celtic this time last summer but struggled to break into the side, making just ten appearances for the SPL giants last season.
It’s this lack of match action that is thought to be behind the move to Yorkshire, where he will hope to get more match time in a Barnsley side that are hoping to surprise people and mount an unlikely push for promotion.
Barnsley will travel to Deepdale after the international break ends on September 10, where they will take on a Preston side that has struggled to get going this campaign.
And Heckingbottom will hope to have Janko ready to go and fighting fit ahead of the tie, which could see the Tykes further their lead in the top three.
