Cardiff City striker Rhys Healey has penned a new deal with the club, the Cardiff City official website has confirmed today.

The highly rated new youngster has committed his future to Cardiff City and will now look to kick on with further first team opportunities.

Rhys Healey puts pen to paper on a three year deal which keeps him at the Welsh club until the summer of 2020.

The 22-year-old is yet to play for Cardiff in the current season but featured for Neil Warnock's side in the latter half of last year after impressing on loan at League Two side Newport County.

At Newport, Healey netted seven goals in 23 games and gained some vital experience to aid his development.

With a number of clubs, including Plymouth Argyle, keen to snap him up last January, Warnock decided to keep young Healey and introduce him into the first team picture.

Rhys Healey scored a last minute winner in his first match back for Cardiff City, grabbing against Burton Albion in the Sky Bet Championship.

He has a total of 8 games under his belt for the Bluebirds, including two starts.

Healey will now look to kick on as he nears his return from injury.

Rhys Healey is a good prospect and he will be looking forward to getting back to the first team.

The 22-year-old has an eye for goal but, at such a vital stage of his career, he needs the playing time.

This contract extension should give him the confidence he needs to kick on.
