Done Deal: Bury secure move for 30-year-old on two-year deal

Bury have signed former Wigan Athletic defender Leon Barnett, the club have confirmed.

The 30-year-old joins Bury on a two-year deal following the expiry of his contract at the DW Stadium.

He has great Football League experience, winning promotion to the Premier League on three separate occasions, with West Brom, Norwich and Cardiff.

He also helped Wigan win the League One title last season, making 20 league appearances during 2015/16, and a further 4 appearances in cup competitions.

Leon Barnett is Bury’s ninth signing so far this summer, he joins the likes of Chris Kirkland and Zeli Ismail who are also new arrivals at Gigg Lane ahead of the 2016/17 season.

Last season, Bury finished 14th in the League One table, fourteen points clear of the relegation zone. While Wigan, Barnett’s previous club won the league.
