Done Deal: Bristol City sign international defender

Bristol City confirmed on their official website late on Tuesday night that they had completed the signing of free agent Joel Ekstrand.

Joel Ekstrand had been training with Bristol City for the past five weeks as he attempted to win a contract with the Championship club.

Having taking his time to mull over the decision and assess Ekstrand’s fitness, Lee Johnson has finally opted to offer Ekstrand a contract.

The 27-year-old was a key member of the Watford team between 2012 and 2015 as they won promotion back to the Premier League.

However he suffered a season-long injury last summer and missed the entire year.

After the arrival of Walter Mazzarri, Ekstrand confirmed that he would leave the club upon his contract expiry this summer.

The 6’2” centre half comes in to add competition in the defensive ranks for Aden Flint, Hordur Magnusson and Taylor Moore.

Ekstrand pens a one-year deal at Ashton Gate as he aims to relaunch his career after a devastating injury.

Bristol City fans – What do you make of this signing? He has good pedigree but is he fit enough? Can he reproduce the form he showed whilst at Watford?
