Done Deal: Bristol City secure signing of 24-year-old full-back in preparation for new campaign

Sky Bet Championship club Bristol City have announced the signing of Sunderland full-back Adam Matthews on a season-long loan deal.

The Robins confirmed the arrival of the ex-Celtic defender on their official website and he will link-up with his new team-mates ahead of the new season.

Matthews made nine appearances for the Championship side at the back end of last season and his performances have tempted boss Lee Johnson into re-signing the 24-year-old once more.

Bristol City are seen by many as dark horses to challenge for promotion this season and the signing of Matthews harnesses those thoughts, with Johnson’s squad now boasting Championship experience in abundance.

Matthews had fallen down the pecking order at Sunderland and his latest temporary switch does not include a recall option, meaning that the player will spend the entire season with the Robins.

Johnson was delighted with his latest capture and told www.bcfc.co.uk: “I am pleased to have Adam back with us. He did very well at the back end of last season and certainly fits the bill in terms of quality and experience.”

Bristol City fans, are you happy with your latest signing? Is the squad now complete? Who else should Lee Johnson pursue? Let us know in the comments below!!!
