The four-year deal, has been made possible after the forward passed his medical and agreed personal terms.

Speaking upon his arrival, the 25-year-old said that former Seagulls boss Mark McGhee inspired him to make the move.

He told the Brighton website, “He was the first man to give me a real chance in the first team. I played a good run of games under him; I played in Europe and I played well so he was big for me at the time.

“Obviously he has moved on and is involved with Scotland but I know he was great down here with Brighton and it’s up to me to be successful down here too’’.

Manager Chris Hughton has been looking to add to his attacking options all summer, and with the acquisition of Murphy, he has increased his solution in support of a strong frontline led Kazenga Lua Lua and Bobby Zamora.

Hughton said, "We are really pleased to welcome Jamie to the club. He is somebody we monitored very closely last season and he was one of Sheffield United's most influential and creative players.

"He's a winger who can play on either flank and he will give us extra options in both wide positions. He's a very good age, an age where he can continue to develop as a player and build on his experience."

The former Scotland U21 player will now be hoping to kick-start his international career with his country ahead of the Euro 2016 final.

Murphy came to prominence during his seven years at Scottish side Motherwell, where he played 176 games and scored 34 goals, helping the club reach the European stage as well as the Scottish Cup Final. He made the move south of the border in 2013 to score 17 goals in 95 games he played for the Blades.

Brighton’s ninth signing has already started training with his new team-mates and could make his debut against Huddersfield Town on Tuesday.
