Done Deal: Brentford sign highly-rated 22-year-old goalkeeper

Brentford have signed 22-year-old Dan Bentley from Sky Bet League One club Southend United, the clubs official website has confirmed.

Bentley is incredibly highly-rated and looks as if he could be a shrewd acquisition to potentially replace Brentford’s current keeper or definitely challenge David Button who is only contracted at Griffin Park for another year.

Bentley was a massive part in Southend’s promotion season of 2014/15 which culminated in a victory at Wembley, and the 6ft 4in man was a massive part in ensuring that Southend had a decent first season in League One, as Phil Brown’s side finished in fifteenth place.

Bentley spent his youth career at Arsenal, before moving to Southend in 2008 becoming professional in 2009. Since then Bentley has made 141 appearances at the club, having a loan spell at Braintree Town during this time.

Bentley looks to be a very good acquisition for the London club, but being unproven in the Championship, it will be interesting to see how well Bentley handles the higher standard of football.

Southend fans, what do you think of this move? Is Bentley irreplaceable?

And Brentford fans, is Button still your number one? Do you play Bentley instead? Leave thoughts and opinions below!
