Bolton Wanderers manager Phil Parkinson has signed a new contract, the club's official website has announced.

As well as Phil Parkinson, his assistant manager Steve Parkin has also put pen to paper on a new contract.

Phil Parkinson was appointed as manager of Bolton Wanderers last summer after they were relegated to League One.

He was tasked with guiding them back to the Championship and he achieved his ambitions in his first season at the club.

Bolton finished second in the third tier and were instantly promoted back to the Championship.

During that time, Phil Parkinson also managed to pick up three Manager of the Month awards for his respective success in each of those periods.

Parkinson had his trusted assistant next to him in Steve Parkin.

Parkin joined Parkinson's side at Bradford City in 2011 and came with him to Bolton Wanderers last summer.

After a successful season in the third tier, Parkinson and Parkin have been rewarded with new deals by Bolton Wanderers.

However, the length of their new contract has not been specified in the report on the Bolton Wanderers official website.

Phil Parkinson was pleased to commit his future to Bolton and he said:

“I am delighted to have agreed the new contract and I’m looking forward to building on the success we enjoyed last season.”

The Verdict

After winning promotion for Bolton Wanderers last season, Phil Parkinson has been given the new contract that he deserves.

The length of the deal is not specified but I imagine that it will be not be lengthy because cash-strapped Bolton will not want to shell out big money if performances start indicating that he needs to be sacked.

It looks like Parkinson has bought into the project at the Macron Stadium and is building his side for the future, albeit while under a part embargo.
