Bolton Wanderers have confirmed that they have secured loan deals for two West Ham United starlets, centre-back Reece Burke and midfielder Josh Cullen.

The pair will be with the newly-promoted Championship club until January, and Whites manager Phil Parkinson expressed his enthusiasm at getting the opportunity be reunited with the youngsters, both of whom he has worked with before, during his time at the helm at Bradford City.

Speaking as he prepares his side for their return to the second tier, which kicks off when they host Leeds United on Sunday, Parkinson stated, “We’ve worked with Reece and Josh before and are very pleased to get them on board. They are good characters but more importantly good players. They’ll add a lot of quality to the squad and have a desire to show everybody that they can play at this level.”

The pair both have Premier League experience with the Hammers, and have made plenty of outings in League 1 - Cullen has played 55 times in the third tier, while Burke has made 34 League 1 appearances, but the Championship is a largely new challenge for the duo.

Burke has played just 10 games in the second tier, while Cullen is yet to appear in the division; therefore, Parkinson is putting some degree of faith in the young duo in backing them to make the step up.

The Verdict:

Bolton have themselves two very talented young players on their hands and I personally feel that the pair will adjust very well to the Championship.

Younger players can find the second tier a touch too physical, but both Burke and Cullen are highly rated by their parent club, and its fans and as long as they are afforded gametime, could prosper and become real assets to Parkinson's side.

The only snag for Bolton is that the deal is only in place until January, when they may be faced with the prospect of losing two men who have become pivotal for them, in the middle of the season, with no recompense with which to replace them.
