Blackpool have completed the signing of Emmerson Boyce on a one-year deal, the club website has confirmed.
Boyce was a free agent following his release from Wigan Athletic and, following a successful trial, has finalised his move to Bloomfield Road.
The 35-year-old featured in the Tangerines’ final pre-season game against Accrington Stanley and has been brought in to bolster their defence.
He can play either at right-back or centre-half and is the 12th signing of the summer by manager Neil McDonald, who will be looking to steady the ship by the seaside and gain an instant return to the Championship.
Boyce spent nine years at Wigan following his move from Crystal Palace, making 291 appearances in total at the DW Stadium.
It was with the Latics that he recorded his greatest achievement, as he captained them to victory in the 2013 FA Cup final at Wembley after shocking Manchester City 1-0.
He has also played for Luton Town during his 17-year career, and will undoubtedly add an element of Football League experience which will be very beneficial to the struggling Tangerines, as they prepare for life in Sky Bet League One.
