Martin Paterson has joined Blackpool

Subject to international clearance, the 28-year-old striker will join the Blackpool squad for the rest of the season as they strive to get promoted straight back into the Sky Bet Championship.

The forward had been training with the squad prior to signing his contract, but he is now committed to the club for at least a season as he looks to get a run of games under his belt.

The forward has made 22 caps for Northern Ireland and has recently had a stint in the MLS with Orlando City, however, he is now making his way to the North-East side to play in the Sky Bet League One.

Speaking to the club's official website, he said: "As soon as I came in to train the manager wanted me to sign and wanted me to prove my fitness. I feel fit and ready to go out and play some games.

"I'm joining the club to add experience and hopefully firepower. I'm looking forward to playing as many games as I possibly can this season for Blackpool."

The Blackpool coaching staff and management team will be hoping that the forward can impress the fans and help the club improve on their stuttering form as the Sky Bet League One season progresses.

The club were subject to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Gillingham last Saturday and will be hoping to make up for their mistakes as they face Barnsley on Saturday - Paterson will no doubt be hoping to feature and build on his current career.

The determined forward made a name for himself at Burnley, Huddersfield and Scunthorpe, but will now be hoping that Blackpool is the right destination for him.
