Birmingham City have signed Chelsea youngster Jeremie Boga on a season-long loan deal from Premier League Champions Chelsea, according to the Blues Twitter page.

The 20-year-old Ivory Coast international is held in high regard at Stamford Bridge, and will spend the year under the tutelage of Harry Redknapp, continuing his development in the West Midlands.

Despite his age, Boga is extremely experienced, having spent loan spells with Rennes and Granada during his short career.

A year in the second tier with Birmingham will allow the player to understand the demands of the English games, and Redknapp will be delighted to have secured the signature of such an exciting young talent.

Making his international debut in an African Cup of Nations qualifying match against Guinea earlier this year, Boga’s performances for the Blues could earn him a call-up to Marc Wilmots’ squad ahead of the World Cup in Russia next year.

The Verdict: Only 20-years-old and already a season of both French and Spanish top flight football under his belt, Boga is an extremely solid acquisition by Blues boss Redknapp.

The youngster will be a welcome addition to the midfield at St Andrews, and could spell the end of Redknapp’s pursuit of Torino’s Afriyie Acquah.

The Blues haven’t enjoyed the most prolific of starts to the new campaign, and the addition of Boga will be a welcome boost ahead of the international break.
