Birmingham City have confirmed via their official website that they have signed Dutch midfielder Maikel Kieftenbeld.
The 25-year-old joins Gary Rowett’s side on a three-year deal and is the fifth player to come through the doors at St.Andrews this summer following the arrivals of goalkeeping duo Tomasz Kuszczak and Adam Legzdins, as well as Jacques Maghoma and Alex Jones.
The midfielder is the second player in a matter of weeks leaving FC Groningen for the Championship, following the arrival of Tjaronn Chery at Queens Park Rangers.
Birmingham City will be hoping for a decent season after what was a mixed campaign for Rowett’s side last season, with the likes of Clayton Donaldson signing a new deal at the club, Birmingham may be a surprise contender for a play-off position in the league.
The addition of Kieftenbeld could be an astute addition for the club but having not plied his trade in the Sky Bet Championship, it may take some time for him to adapt to the rigours and demands of the second tier of English football.
