Birmingham City have confirmed that David Davis has signed a new deal with the club.

Davis signs a one year contract extension at St Andrew's, committing his future until the summer of 2021.

The 27-year-old has been a regular in the Blues team yet again this season, playing 41 times in all competitions, scoring three goals and helping his side stay up in the Championship.

The central midfielder has been a key player for Birmingham since his 2014 switch from West Midlands neighbours Wolves, playing a total of 167 games and scoring 11 goals.

Last season was his best to date for Birmingham as he scooped the Players' Player of the Season and Supporters' Player of the Season awards.

Garry Monk has used him as an integral part of his midfield since coming in and now has ensured that he commits his future to the club.

Smethwick-born Davis has been used in central midfield, holding midfield and even as a winger this season as he battled to keep his team afloat in the second tier.

Birmingham confirmed their safety on the final day of the season with a 3-1 win against Fulham with Davis playing the full 90 minutes.

Davis now has three years left on his Birmingham contract.

The Verdict

Davis provides protection for the back four, as well as the ability to carry the ball forwards and start attacks.

At 27, he is now at the right age to kick on and help the Blues compete up the league table.

This news will come as a relief to Birmingham fans with clubs expected to take an interest in Davis this summer.
