Barnsley have completed the signing of Brad Potts, the club's official website is reporting.

Brad Potts has been a long term target for Barnsley and they have finally completed the capture of the Blackpool star just before the start of the new season.

Barnsley have coughed up an undisclosed fee for Brad Potts, who puts pen to paper on a three year deal with the Tykes and has an option for a further twelve months.

The energetic box to box midfielder was one of the stars in League Two last season and helped guide Blackpool to promotion.

Potts scored the opener in Blackpool's 2-1 win over Exeter City at Wembley in the League Two play-off final - a game which would end up being his last for the Tangerines.

The 23-year-old spent two seasons with Blackpool after joining them from Carlisle United.

The former England under-19 international is versatile and able to play as a central midfielder, centre back or as a winger.

With thirteen goals and twelve assists to his name last season, Potts was hot property this summer and Barnsley have been chasing him for a long while.

Blackpool held firm but it seems that the Reds have finally met their asking price with a bid for Brad Potts.

The Verdict

Brad Potts is a brilliant signing for Barnsley and he is just the profile of player that fits Paul Heckingbottom's system.

Having proved himself in League One and League Two, the 23-year-old is being given the opportunity to play at a higher level and he will definitely be hungry to take that chance.

The 6ft 2in midfielder adds height, power, energy, pace and skill to the midfield department, as well as being a goal threat and providing assists.

With options such as Brad Potts, George Moncur, Stevie Mallan and Alex Mowatt in central midfield, Barnsley are looking strong for next season.
