The 28-year-old has signed a four month deal until January 3 2016 and the Yorkshire side will be hoping that the experienced frontman will add goals to their side, with the League One team currently sitting in 7th place in the table.

Jackson, has spent the majority of his career in England playing for the likes Rushden and Diamonds, Gillingham, Norwich City, Millwall and Coventry City, as well as spending a year at German outfit Eintracht Braunschweig and has amassed 100 league goals – along with nine strikes in 44 caps for Canada.

Barnsley manager Lee Johnson has expressed his delight at signing the striker and told the club’s website:“He’s a good finisher and he’s somebody who’s got that experience of promotions and scoring goals at this level. He gives us another string to our bow. It leaves us with four or five strikers to choose from.”

Jackson had been training with the Tykes since the start of the season and had impressed Johnson and his staff enough to be offered the short-term deal.
