According to the official club website, Barnsley have completed the signing of Leicester midfielder Matty James on loan until the end of the season possibly paving the way for Conor Hourihane’s departure to Aston Villa.
The exodus at Barnsley has been vast with Sam Winnall and James Bree the latest departures with Hourihane expected to follow Bree to Villa.
Barnsley have had an excellent season under coach Paul Heckingbottom and they have a chance of finishing top 6 and the signing of Matty James bolsters the squad.
The commanding midfielder came through the ranks at Manchester United and represented England at several youth levels making 34 appearances in all.
He made nearly 100 appearances for Leicester helping them win promotion in 2014 and he has a wealth of Premier League experience praised regularly for his tenacity and work rate.
With plenty of other sides interested Heckingbottom was clearly delighted to get the deal done:
“We’ve brought in a player who is hugely experienced and talented, so I’m delighted that we’ve got the deal done. I know that there was other interest and we had to fight that off, but ultimately it was Matty’s decision and he picked to join us and this shows that we can attract players from the best league in the world”.
