Sky Bet Championship side Barnsley have confirmed on their official website the signing of Queens Park Rangers left-back Cole Kpekawa on a three-year-deal.
The 20-year-old defender had spent his entire career at Loftus Road, joining the club’s academy as an eight year old, but he makes the move to Yorkshire after struggling to get regular first team football, having made just two appearances since signing his professional deal back in 2014.
Kpekawa, who has been capped four times by England at Under-20 level, is expected to link-up with his team-mates immediately, and will be available for selection for the Tykes’ game against Preston North End after the international break.
Barnsley have made a fantastic start to the season and, unexpectedly, sit in third place in the Championship after five games.
The Tykes have been looking for quality players to support their solid start to the season, and Kpekawa is known for his pace and defensive robustness – he stands at 6 ft 3″ tall.
He can also play as a centre-back, making him a terrifically versatile option for Paul Heckingbottom as the season progresses.
