Done Deal: Aston Villa finally appoint new manager ahead of Championship campaign

Former Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo has been appointed the new manager of Aston Villa, the club have confirmed.

The 46-year-old succeeds Remi Garde who was sacked back in March for failing to recover Villa from the dire depths of Premier League relegation.

Steve Clarke will join Aston Villa, too, as Di Matteo’s assistant – the two having previously played together at Chelsea for two years but have never been in management together.

In Di Matteo, the club have found a manager that is likely to raise the club’s profile having previously won the UEFA Champions League with Chelsea in 2012.

Steve Clarke, former West Brom and Schalke boss, also looks to be a great appointment having previously worked with Jose Mourinho as assistant manager for three years.

The first job for Di Matteo and Clarke will be to sort out the players they want at the club as well as getting rid of the unwanted players.

The task that faces the both of them is one of monumental stature given last season’s chaos, but with the past experience the two bring to the club, Villa fans should feel much more upbeat ahead of the new season.

Villa fans… What do you make of the appointment? Is there anyone you would have preferred? Have your say in the comment section below!
