Birmingham City have announced a season-long loan deal for Arsenal midfielder Jon Toral.
Born to a British mother and Spanish father, the 20-year-old is a product of the Barcelona youth academy, and he had spent eight years at the La Masia before his ‘dream move’ to England came about.
He was spotted by the Gunners during the Manchester United Premier Cup in 2010, and eventually signed for the London club in 2011.
The attacking midfielder will now spend a second season in the Championship, having had a successful loan spell at Brentford, where he played 36 games and scored six goals. He also featured in the pre-season Barclays Asia trophy which Arsenal won recently.
Arriving at the St Andrew’s, Toral said to the club’s official site he was glad the move went through.
‘’I’m very happy we could make this move with Arsenal and Birmingham. I hope I’ll enjoy my football here.
‘’The league is crazy, anyone can beat anyone. There is no easy game and you have to focus in every game. I learnt a lot last season and I hope I can move from there’’.
The Spaniard is the sixth signing for the Blues this summer, and he will now have to fight with Stephen Gleeson, David Davis, Maikel Kieftenbeld and young Reece Brown for a place in the midfield .
The Blues boss Gary Rowett will be content with the business he has done so far in transfer window – In addition to the signings he already made, he was able to commit each of Clayton Donaldson, Andrew Shinnie, Jonathan Grounds and Paul Caddis to new contracts.
