AFC Wimbledon have announced the signing of Chris Whelpdale on their official website.
The experienced winger was a main target for Neal Ardley and the Dons have fought off competition to secure his services.
He joins up with Wimbledon after leaving Stevenage – where he has played his football since 2014. Prior to that, Whelpdale had spells with Peterborough and Gillingham and won promotion with both.
The wide man adds consistency to their midfield ranks and was highly sought after following his departure from League Two Stevenage. The Essex-born midfielder has amassed over 250 professional appearances in a career which started over a decade ago.
Whelpdale’s versatility makes him an important signing as he is able to operate on either flank.
He becomes the Wombles’ third summer signing after the arrivals of Darius Charles and Ryan Clarke from Burton and Northampton respectively. Ardley is looking to bolster his squad with more new faces to prepare for life in League One.
