A number of Nottingham Forest supporters have been bemoaning the lack of form shown so far this season from Joe Lolley, following the Reds’ 3-1 defeat at home to Brentford on Saturday.

Forest started the day in desperate need of a victory to lift the feelings of doom and gloom around the City Ground after their terrible start to the campaign. However, they were second best throughout against their play-off chasing opponents and it was a performance which suggested their lowly place in the table is no fluke at the moment.

One player who has perhaps epitomised Forest’s struggles so far this season is Lolley, who was such a key performer for the Reds in the last two seasons scoring nine goals and registering eight assists last term (Sofascore). However, so far this term he has just one goal and no assists to his name after 17 appearances in the Championship.

The big festive Nottingham Forest quiz: Can you get 20/20?

Against Brentford, Lolley managed to lose possession of the ball 13 times in the first half and had just one effort on goal and maintained a passing accuracy of just 60% (Sofascore). He was replaced at half time and the 28-year-old has a lot of work to do to get back to the sort of form he has shown in the past.

Many Nottingham Forest fans were bemoaning the impact that Lolley has managed to have for them this season, while one fan even suggested that his head could potentially be elsewhere with the belief that he is not looking as motivated as he has in recent campaigns.
