Doncaster Rovers star John Marquis has claimed he wouldn't swap any of his current team mates for the players likely to feature against them in their quest for Championship football.

Grant McCann's side face Charlton this weekend, boasting Joe Aribo, Lyle Taylor and Patrick Bauer. If they get through that they'll either play Sunderland, with £5m of strikers on the field, or Portsmouth with in-form Jamal Lowe and Matt Clarke.

It doesn't matter who they line up against though, 21-goal Marquis wouldn't swap them for any of his teammates.

"There is no one in our team I'd swap for anyone in any of the other teams in the play-offs,” he told the Doncaster Free Press.

"We're going in there as a unit and we'll see what can happen. We'll take anyone. We're not scared of anyone."

The striker, who is out of contract this summer and likely to bag a move up the divisions, was bullish when assessing his sides final position. They finished sixth, 15 points behind Charlton and closer to 12th placed Oxford United.

He doesn't believe that matters now the 46-game season is over.

“There has already been a lot of talk from the other teams, saying how good they all are. Let’s see how good they are.

“They finished with a lot of points more than us. Fair enough, but this is just three games. If we win the next three games, we are in the Championship next season."

Doncaster host the Addicks this Sunday at the Keepmoat Stadium, before making the return trip to South London a week tomorrow.

The Verdict

Marquis is a top quality forward and whether his side win or lose, he's sure to be gracing the Championship next season.

He seems focused on the task in hand, but the three teams above them were a cut above in terms of quality. Charlton should have enough to get past Doncaster and ensure that if Marquis is to progress, it's via a move and not a Wembley win.
